After the consolidation of the two major Swim Clubs in New Castle County, DE, there remained very few options for swimmers in the area to join a club that is sanctioned by USA Swimming. Shockwaves Aquatic Club was established in 2008 to provide an option to fill this void.

The head coach and owner drew on her 17 plus years of experience in all aspects of swimming:

  • a leading member of her high school swim team and Club program;
  • summer coaching;
  • full-time, year round coaching, and;
  • swim team management and administration
to form Shockwaves, and register the team in both New Jersey and Delaware where it has training facilities.

Focusing on development of swimmers of all age groups, the assistant coaches that work with Shockwaves have been recruited from a small pool of very experienced individuals. This experience allows Shockwaves, since its inception, to focus on the needs of each swimmer and provide a specific training experience for each and every swimmer.

Close to completing the fourth season as a successful Swim Team, Shockwaves Coach and Swimmers have experienced many success stories.  First, the head coach has achieved Level 5 Certification with USA Swimming. This is an elite group of coaches; only about 5% of all coaches in ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association) reach this level.  Two of the strict requirements in achieving this level are having Team swimmers earn at least 40 Top 10 National Age Group rankings and at least 3 National Championships. (The Shockwaves Team has exceeded both of these criteria.)

Second, consistent with the concept of providing each swimmer on the Team a specific training experience, in the 2011/2012 Swim Season, various team members have:

  • Earned entry and participation in the USA Swimming National Open Water Championships;
  • Set a USA Swimming National Age Group Record in the 500 Freestyle for 9-10 year boys with a time of 5:14.14, making him the fastest swimmer in this event/age group ever;
  • >25% of Team swimmers have earned multiple Sectional Qualifying Times;
  • Realized many other personal and Team milestones and recognition.
